'25 Outreach Prayer support/sponsor
for ___ (Name your Teen) ___
Will you be a support/prayer partner for a teen and help them stay on track to earn a Campership to Christian Camp? The teen will need 30-50 Volunteer Hours. You are being asked to commit to 10-20 min. a week to meet and pray with/for the teen and encourage their faith growth in the process.
Pray for Vermont has teamed with various Christian youth organizations and camps to reach out to Vermont children to encourage participation in opportunities to share Bible stories, faith activities such as prayer, learning Bible verses, and Bible crafts. If teens will give 30-50 hours they will be eligible for camperships of $150-250. Would you meet 10-20 minutes each week with a teen to discuss what they have been doing or next steps they are planning to do and give advice/guidance as needed?
1) Be available to meet up in person or via phone for 10-20 min. once a week with your teen. It likely works best to make it same time each week with fluctuations as needed.
2) Be a cheerleading support team, adopt them as a friend. Offer words of wisdom, guidance and encouragement. Make their goal, your goal, too.
3) Keep a brief prayer journal with comments on concerns you discuss and pray about at your weekly check ins. (Some skip weeks may be arranged as summer activities can be busy, but keep up the prayer.)
4) Pray daily for your teen and for more workers, and a bountiful harvest for His kingdom in Vermont to grow. Pray locally for united efforts across denominational lines and for united times of prayer and worship.
5) Assist your teen with suggestions of who to write in writing letters of appeal to about dozen people who might help them raise additional funds for their camp fees. (Pray for Vermont camperships will help, but not cover all the costs.)
These are some opportunities your teen can join as a volunteer – each area of the state has some of these opportunities ready for teen volunteers. Help them explore ways to serve and reach out to find children to share Bible stories with. Attached is a copy of their hour tallies.
1. Assist with local church Vacation Bible School (VBS.) This would include helping with crafts, music, sports, preparing / serving snacks.
2. Volunteer with local AWANA programs if they are in your vicinity.
3. Promote VBS and Awana programs. Be the one to stir adults from your church to volunteer with After School Programs (ASP) a couple of hours doing what they love with kids – baking/decorating cookies, dance, music, crafts, or even homework help or playground supervision… with the intent of getting to know kids and after some warm up time, invite them to VBS/Awana. Start NOW. ASP will welcome these volunteers bringing special programs, but arranging it to fit their schedule before the end of the school year needs to happen NOW.
4. Expand the outreach of VBS and Awana with some personal touch to non-churched children. Reach out beyond just friends of kids at the church with presentations and fliers about these programs. Brainstorm lists of youth groups such as 4-H, ball teams, karate classes, scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs, special needs … find out who their leaders are and request an opportunity to share about these program. Offer to assist a ball team coach for a month, lead something you do well at one of their meetings so you can get to know the kids and extend invitations. You could share VTHope.club cards with them, too.
5. Serve as a sports coach or perhaps a huddle leader (provide a Bible message) with Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp – in scattered regions of the state (Rutland, Chittenden, and Franklin Counties and Northfield) Stir leadership and space for an FCA camp next summer in your vicinity. FCA has successfully helped teens start student led Bible studies in Vermont schools. Start one in your public school.
6. Be a summer missionary with Child Evangelism Fellowship includes training at a week of camp to learn to organize 5 Day Clubs.
7. Receive training or read the online manual to team with church members to host and recruit kids for your own Backyard VBS – Superheroes in Training for the Lord’s Army. Training to be offered in mid May in Randolph, VT and perhaps again in mid June and possibly Fourth of July week.
8. Recruit some adults to go with a few teens and share the Guidepost for Turbulent Times message at community events, at fairs, and state parks.
9. Help with a local Sunday school effort and lead 2 sessions.
10. Share 5 Bible stories with 20 younger children and teach them to pray.
