Volunteer Providing Camp Experiences for Elementary Children
VBS experiences are likely most common for VT Christian youth. HOW could they be used to reach MORE children?
What would it take to actively recruit children from ball teams, 4-H groups, scouts, special education classrooms? What if churches volunteered to interact with youth in afterschool programs? Put your talents on display - cookie making, dancing, music and get to know the kids. Bring a craft for kids to enjoy. Teach them a game - Bocci ball, croquet, limbo... Now invite them to attend your VBS. You might see more children and more families in your church.

Many Vermont churches are too small to offer a VBS like Lifeway, but what if you found a couple of young people to be trained and used the church / park / people's backyards to host small gatherings of Backyard VBS around a picnic table or a blanket on the ground and used the online manual for Superheroes in Training. Vthope.club/shhc.html Minimal costs, Bible stories, songs, memory verses, snack, craft and activity - use as fits your setting. Any high school student may volunteer for a month of work crew and college students may volunteer for Camp Staff. Paid staff positions are already filled. younglife.org/camping/join-us-at-camp/
Young Life Camp costs about $700 for a 4 day trip. A middle school Vermont group is planning to go to Lake Champion and may have room for others to be included. There may be another Vermont group going to Lake Saranac in mid August. Seeking adult volunteers and 50+ teens. Campership opportunities are available to those who volunteer 30-50 hours in helping reach younger children and do outreach with 3 circle presentations in your communities.
