THIRD Session - Hope Club - Superheroes In Training Day 2Lessons Instructions for DAY 2
Hope Club - Superheroes In Training Lessons Instructions for DAY 3 Theme – Jesus is God’s son and came be our Savior. Bible Verse: John 3:16 For God so loved the world that whosoever believes on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Day 3 – Lesson – Jesus is God’s son and came to be our Savior. How many of you have heard of Jesus before? What can you tell me about His birthday – Christmas? Start with what they know – draw out with questions things about the angels, shepherds, Bethlehem, Mary & Joseph, … If there are some who have never heard the story, you may want to show the Nativity story, but it is long. |
Ask them what they know about things that Jesus did for the poor and the sick? And miracles Jesus did? From their answers and looking at the time – decide which of the other stories to share. Talking with them is time well spent, too. If you have children’s Bible story books and are a good storyteller, reading about these stories is a good option, too. The videos are an easy option, too.
Nativity – talk about the Christmas story – if all know it, skip it. If not you may want to show it – 18 min. www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXWoKi5x3lw&t=2s
Discuss briefly these stories and have the children and time help you decide which to watch or discuss.
Jesus Feeds the Poor – 10 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=O17CvIAyZJ4&t=2s
Young Jesus Teaches – 2.5 www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJJo0Fksivk&t=7s
Jesus Walks on Water – 2 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=nraQQimQuN4&t=3s
Zaccheus – 2 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BjtbJFz2ug&t=3s
Discuss with the group – Who remembers the first story we shared on Monday. Hint: Dem Bones Gonna Rise Again. Who made the Garden of Eden? Who was the first man God created? The first woman? These two were made from elements of the earth and God breathed life into them and they were created in the image of God. The Bible says, let us make them in our image.
Gen. 1:26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” It doesn’t say Jesus’s name in this, but Jesus was with God the Father at that time. Look at a dice. One side says 1, another 2, and another 3… Yet all are part of the same dice. Just like the dice, God has different sides that are all part of God. God the Father, God the Son – Jesus Christ – and God the Holy Spirit.
Jesus was a unique person who came to earth after living in heaven, part of the 3 sides of God. It was God’s plan that Jesus would die after living a very faithful life – full of love, kindness, healing, teaching about hope and faith. His death would open the doors of forgiveness for sin for all who call upon Him. What was our first memory verse. The wages of sin is death. Sin needs someone to die. Jesus died, in our place so that if we call upon Him, He can pay for our sin, our wrongs, our disobedience to God’s ways. This means Jesus saves us from our sin if we call upon Him. This can be a simple prayer –
Father God, I’m sorry for not always following your loving ways. I need Jesus to save me. I need Jesus to help me follow in your ways. I open my heart to let Him guide me and learn from Him to love and obey as He did.
After talking about the different video stories of Jesus’ life, decide which ones to share with the group.
Discuss that Jesus did the things He did because He studied the Bible, talked often to His Father, and shared the love God has for people in need – the poor, the lost, the ones needing healing. He walked on water and Peter was eager to do the same. He briefly did, but when he thought about it he sank. When he believed he could, he, too, walked on water. What made a difference was how much faith he had in his heart. Zacheaus wasn’t a popular man as a tax collector, yet Jesus reached out in love to him and came to dine at his house when everyone else would walk away.
Invite children to pray that Jesus would come into their heart. Discuss the renown Light of the World by William Holman Hunt picture of Jesus knocking at the door of a heart, but there is no door handle on the door. It can only be opened from the inside, illustrating Revelation 3:20: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me".
Share with the children - the Best Dad Ever comic, found at the bottom of this section. You might want to let them find a quiet spot nearby so they can listen intently in a private space without others watching - maybe put on some music, too. Let it linger and give them some quiet space to talk with God. Jesus is knocking and want you to be able to know the Best Dad Ever. He is the gateway.

CRAFT Instructions for DAY 3
Theme – Jesus is God’s son and came to be our Savior.
Bible Verse: John 3:16 For God so loved the world that whosoever believes on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Snack – Give each child a cupcake to add pretzel crosses to represent the hill where Jesus died for each of us. Have kids make 3 pretzel crosses by adding a dab of cream cheese to hold them together. Optionally use other pretzels, carrot and celery sticks, to make an outline from one of today’s stories on a napkin to share before they eat it.
Move it or Lose It – Memory Game Many children learn best by moving. A creative way to break up long lengths of sitting still in Sunday School is to brainstorm motions with the students to match their memory verse. When children learn movements they are less likely to “lose it” from their memory.
Have the group brainstorm motions for the phrases – (suggestions offered if they draw a blank, but let the group decide)
God so loved the world - draw heart over chest and then hold up an imaginary ball
Whosoever believes on Him – finger to palm and then to head (sign language for believe)
Should not perish – face take a dead pan look
But have everlasting life – make L with both thumb and index and have them dance moving overhead. Repeat the Memory verse a couple of times.
Now repeat it a few times. Then have someone lead just the motions and have the group say the words.
Shield of Faith
Supplies – poster board – 16x12”, 3- 2x6” cardboard/cardstock/posterboard, markers, scissors, sequens, glitter glue, staplers, patterns for kids to trace to make their shields.
Breastplate of Righteousness
Collect paper bags - and prepare them for the kids in advance. They can decorate them to taste - start today and finish by Friday. (Scissor trim at the end is optional.) (Kids choice - A real breastplate would be opened from the backside and fully cover the chest. Theirs can be a vest if they prefer.)
Pass out pictures to color of Jesus and picture of sample shield to send home. You decide, you might want to send them home with a copy of the Best Dad Ever, too.

Shield of Faith
Supplies – poster board – 16x12”, 3- 2x6” cardboard/cardstock/posterboard, markers, scissors, sequens, glitter glue, staplers, patterns for kids to trace to make their shields.
- Cut out cardstock shield.
- Use markers to decorate. Might suggest utilizing your superhero logo design.
- Fold a 2x6” cardstock strip in half lengthwise. Attach it with tape or stapler in the middle of the back to make a grip big enough for the child’s hand.
- Attach 2” strips of cardboard to the top and bottom of the back to add stiffness.
- Put names on and collect finished shields to place in a large bag/box to distribute for final program/last day.
- Tomorrow we will be making our sandals/boots. Select the style of footwear you want to make after looking at the pictures. Make sure your name is written next to the one you want. It can't be changed so pick well now. (Print out the file at the bottom of this section. Once you know what you need. print out a pair of full sized boots based on each child's selection to be ready for tomorrow.)
