FOURTH SESSION Day 4 – Lesson - Jesus Died so we can Live, You Can Be God’s Superhero – Armor of God
Yesterday we saw videos about Jesus' life. Start with Christmas - inquire about what they remember – draw out with questions things about the angels, shepherds, Bethlehem, Mary & Joseph, … Ask them what they know about things that Jesus did for the poor and the sick? And miracles Jesus did? From their answers and looking at the time – decide which of the other stories to share. Talking with them is time well spent. Today we will be looking at the end of Jesus's life on earth. It is the Easter story. What do you already know about Easter? It isn't really about bunnies and eggs, but one of the most important things God arranged for all of us. Who remembers the end of this verse - the wages of sin is _____. That's what we all deserve because we don't always do what God wants. But Jesus came to earth to be God's offering for sin. He is the Lamb of God who died for us, so we could know the Father freely, just like Jesus.
What is sin? Who remembers the first story we shared on Monday. Hint: Dem Bones Gonna Rise Again. Who made the Garden of Eden? Who was the first man God created? The first woman? These two were made from elements of the earth and God breathed life into them and they were created in the image of God. Jesus was with God the Father at that time. Look at a dice. One side says 1, another 2, and another 3… Yet all are part of the same dice. Just like the dice, God has different sides that are all part of God. God the Father, God the Son – Jesus Christ – and God the Holy Spirit.
Jesus was a unique person who came to earth after living in heaven. It was God’s plan that Jesus would die after living a very faithful life – full of love, kindness, healing, teaching about hope and faith. His death would open the doors of forgiveness for sin for all who call upon Him. Sin requires a death. That is what Jesus did. He did it for us. There were mean spirited people who caused it, but Jesus chose to do this for us. He died in our place so that if we call upon Him, He can pay for our sin, our wrongs, our disobedience to God’s ways. He died so we can live. This can be a simple prayer. Father God, I’m sorry for not always following your loving ways. I need Jesus to save me. I need Jesus to help me follow in your ways. I open my heart to let Him guide me and learn from Him to love and obey as He did.
The Easter Story 4:36 min https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZ4gQniUVO8
Discuss that Jesus did the things He did because He studied the Bible, talked often to His Father, and shared the love God has for people in need – the poor, the lost, the ones needing healing. He walked on water and Peter was eager to do the same. He briefly did, but when he thought about it he sank. When he believed he could, he, too, walked on water. What made a difference was how much faith he had in his heart. Zacheaus wasn’t a popular man as a tax collector, yet Jesus reached out in love to him and came to dine at his house when everyone else would walk away.
Armor of God - 5 min - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA4izJlQ6tU
Jesus invites us to walk with God just as He did as a servant of love. He wants us to freely love others. He wants us to pray - and even bring His healing love to others, He wants us to know deep within us that we are loved by a loving Father. Jesus saves us from feeling alone, defeated, like a nobody, and even like a somebody. This is what the Helmet of Salvation is about. If the enemy of His love tries to whisper something else to you - remember - Jesus loves me - I am a child of God, I am precious in His sight. I am not a nobody, but I'm also not the superstar - Jesus is. He helps us all know and do some things well, but it is because He gave us the talents we have. We are His arms of love, His feet of the gospel of peace, the ones who can share a Bible verse with someone who needs to hear it, the ones who can pray for others and help whenever and wherever we can.
Are you ready to start training to be a Superhero for God? No one starts as a superhero. It takes training. Listening, reading, watching God's stories. Spending time talking with Him (praying). Truly trying to be truthful - all the time. Memorizing Bible verses. Showing love and compassion for others as best you can. Obeying your parents and teachers. Being a friend when someone needs a friend. Praying for others who need His help.
You can find stories of other Bible Superheroes now and at home by going to VTHope.club and clicking Children. If time permits have them share a little bit about the stories they found.

Knowing His word is vital to being able to effectively use the Sword of the Spirit while proceeding in peaceably with the sandals of the gospel of peace. We also need to be known for our righteousness which shields our heart.

The next song is a familiar in many settings - especially among adults. Life has had more time to try to chain them down. Sometimes children experience the chains as well. We play this so you know - Jesus is able to break chains of addiction, alcohol, trafficking, depression, illness and more. There is hope. There is freedom. There is loving protection in His care.

Stay together and encourage all to help each other. Each group can help the others - First repeat 3 times with these motions

gP 2 1)hold out arm to shield, 2) point first finger upward, 3) fire hose spray, 4) put on helmet , 5) check your sword, 6) open Bible, GP 3 1)praying hands , 3) 3x praying hands dip and point,
Write the phrases of each section on paper and label them – phrase 1, 2, 3-5 Verse 14 has 3 phrases – first up to then, 2nd up to waits, third end of verse. Verse 15 up to readiness, and to the end of the verse. For older children – phrase 1 goes up to faith , phrase 2 to the end of verse 16. Phrase 3 goes up to salvation, and phrase 4 goes to the end.
Start with the children repeating after you each of the phrases. Then have the older children draw a phrase. Start with Phrase 1, Have the child read their phrase and then the rest repeat it back. Followed by Phrase 2, 3… Then have each give their phrase to the person next to them and do it again. Then have them do it again, but skip phrase 2 and 4 and see if they can recall 2 and 4 without repeating them. Don't push for mastery, if it is too hard - keep it fun.
Craft – Gospel Boot/Shoe/Sandals of Peace
Pass out boots the children selected and have them color them to their liking. Glue full size paper to a sheet of 9x12 manilla paper. Cut in half to separate the half sheet designs and glue to half of a 9x12 manilla paper.
Put hole punches into manilla tag board with hole punches at an inch in from the right side and 4 inches from the bottom and 2 inch in from the top and an inch from the side.
Glue the sandal/boot/shoe to the tag board – paying attention to having a pair with reverse. Poke the two holes in the middle using a sharp pencil, point of some scissors.
Thread a piece of 15 inch yarn through the two top holes so the two ends are on the back side of the colored boot. And another piece through the two bottom holes. Staple the yarn to the tagboard near each hole for added reinforcement.
When ready to “wear” the boots tie the yarn ends so they wrap around the child’s legs and tie on the inside of their legs with the boots on the outside of the left/right sides of their legs.
